You and Your past

“Where you were yesterday is by no means the decider on where you will end up tomorrow but a starting point to the destination of the future”

 

The beauty of today owes it gratitude to the ugliness of the past. In life, wherever you find yourself and whatever you do and whatever outcome you are faced with is as a result of the struggles and the ground you stood yesterday. The past you lived, helped in making your today a reality. You cannot discount the effects of your past on the transaction of the present. The connection between the past and present is the chain reaction of posterity, cause and effects. The choice you made and the decision you took were instrumental in shaping the outcome of the present. Today is the harvest of yesterday’s seed. Where you were yesterday was the preparatory ground for where you are today. The battles you fought and the battles you deferred determines how victorious you are today.

“Today is the harvest of yesterday’s seed.”

The state you are today is the fruit of the seeds sown yesterday. Every past was the seed for today. No matter who you are and what you are, you are a function of the seed and choice of yesterday. The decision and the action you took yesterday were the sureties for today. Every action you fail to take in the past was a seed you failed to sow. Every seed you failed to sow in the past is a harvest denied tomorrow. God honours every seed sown. No matter the potential and assurance of the future, the seeds of the past are the guarantee for it actualization and manifestation. The seeds in your past are meant to attracts the happenings in your life and to dictate the rhythm and beats of your life. The higher the seeds you sow, the greater the chance and the probability of your breakthrough.   

‘’In the morning sow your seed, and in the evening, do not withhold your hand; for you do not know which will prosper either this or that, or whether both alike will be good.’’

 (Ecclesiastes 11: 6)

Your past was the fallow ground for the seeds of your future. No matter how much you try to outsmart the present, it would only answer to the seeds you sow in the past. The seeds you sow in the past helps in the delivery of the present. In life, there is no sowing without a harvest. One of the principles guiding the world is the principle of seed time and harvest. Don’t see your past as a forgone adventure, but see it as a venture into the future. The today you see was the future you saw yesterday. Don’t casualize the happenings of your past, they are sketches into the future,

How I wish our yesterday was preoccupied with the planting of good and quality seeds.  You can’t sow a good seed and reap a bad harvest. The characteristics of the seeds sown yesterday determines the quality of your harvest today. A good seed will yield a good harvest likewise a bad seed.  

Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will reap,

 (Galatian 6: 7).

The darkness of the past is only a pointer to the potential of the light you may likely enjoy in life. The dark state of your past is only a coal in the mine of your destiny. God delights in your past no matter how dark it maybe. Although, your past lies in the sanctuary of yesterday, the purpose of your life wouldn’t have been complete without it. The darkness you encountered yesterday is the key to the light of your tomorrow. No matter how bright the day is, it went through the passage of the dark night. Your darkness is only a preamble of the process of the creation of your destiny,

‘The earth was without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the waters God said, let there be light’’ and there was light.” (Gen 1: 2-3)

The darkness that held sway in your life was only a magnet for the light of salvation that came your way. The possibility of light invading a locality is high when the darkness is at its peak. No matter how dark your past may be, it is a pointer the gloriousness of tomorrow. You may have sacrificed your life, destiny, potentials, dreams, visions on the excuse of the intensity of the darkness in your past but there is an assurance of revival for tomorrow. God never intended you to succumb to the pressure of the past, He equipped you with the capacity to overcome and emerge victorious in the face of inkling darkness.

It is sometimes amazing when some people try to alienate and substitutes the struggle of their past with a carefully crafted falsehood that was a far cry from the reality they experienced. The struggle of the past is a part of the process of who and what you will become. Your struggle equates a masterclass on its own, it provided you with a wonderful learning experience. It is hinged on the practical principles of life. The struggles of the past helped formed your perspectives and shaped your views and approach towards life. The sweetness of your story is dependent on the struggles and setbacks of the past it contained. Your past struggles are a vast database on its own, you can easily tap from the information contained therein. The toil of your past ushered the window of opportunity that heralded your present comfort. The struggles of your yesterday are the platform for today’s breakthrough.

Your struggles were the on the job experience you needed to consolidate on the gain of today. God allows the mechanism of struggles in the past to ensure that you are equipped with for the task ahead of you. The struggles of the past aren’t in vain. They were meant to equip and prepare you mentally, emotionally and physically for the greater and blissful day ahead. Your past struggles were never intended to break and destroy you, they were meant to build and mold you into the personality that deserves the future you were created for.

And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not loose heart, (Galatian 6:9)

Folks, no matter the toil and struggles, God thought well of it, it was part of the big picture. It was meant to fulfill its purpose in your life. The toils and the struggles were configured and coded into your life plan. It was definitely part of it, sometimes I am tempted to call it The Heavenly Conspiracy. The toils and the struggles could even be a character detox that you need. It may be a pruning and character weeding exercise, sometimes certain character traits in us could be the negating and ugly factor that may be a snare upon the blessings that would come our way in the future. It may even be a Smith’s forge, you may need to be pummeled into the shape that God desires. It may even be the character filter that you needed to sieve the smooth from the rough. Remember, it was only a phase in the passage of time!

At the end of very battle in life, every gladiator would want to savour the victory and the subsequent run of popularity that comes with his newfound fame but we must understand that though the tale of success is pleasant but they abound in it, pangs of pain that must be discarded if the essence of the moment must be maximized. In life when we survive the onslaught of darkness, toils and struggles against our existence, we must do away with the scar that comes with the victory or defeat. The earlier you learn how to discard the leftover of the past, the better and easier it is for your healing, victory, restoration and rejuvenation.

Even though it is normal for humans to loath with the thought and desire for vengeance; if you must leave the past, it must be dispensed with forgiveness. You can’t focus into the future with the grains of the past in your eyes, it is retrogressive! Bitterness and unforgiveness constitutes danger to the wellbeing of your future. The negativity that comes with your yesterday and past must be discarded if you must be ushered and embraced into the present in anticipation for the future.

You must forget the abuses, pains, failures that were by product of your past. They don’t belong to the future you are aiming at; the future has no provision for them. They are baggage’s that reduces your stride and pace into your tomorrow, they lessen your drive into the potential of the new day. Your enthusiasm is dampened at the mere thought of their existence. They sap the energy off from your determination. In fact, they are go slows in your mental faculty. They are the sponsor of traffic jam in our sphere of influence. They are drain pipes on your potentials. Your life would perpetually be on vicious cycle mode with those guys onboard. They were the droppings of the enemy to ensure collateral damage even when he the enemy is absent. They are too heavy to be carried into the future, they are not even needed. They are liabilities, they will constitute a charge on the assets God will bring your way. They play the movie of failure in the mind. The pasts you don’t need are sometimes responsible for the negative inner voice we hear, in most case they speak discouragement and destruction into our lives. You don’t need them, they are only parasite and bugs that thrives on your inability to shrug them off from you. If you need help be bold enough to seek one.
